Managing Director
Alex is the Managing Director of Chalice Mining having commenced in late 2017. Alex is an experienced consultant, engineer, project manager and corporate advisor in the resources sector. Prior to joining Chalice, he was working as a Specialist consultant with the global management consultancy McKinsey & Company.
He commenced his engineering career with resources giant BHP in Adelaide, and then spent over six years as an engineer in oil and gas exploration. Alex holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (first class Honours) and a Bachelor of Finance from the University of Adelaide.
Director - Exploration
Mike is a geologist and a graduate of the Camborne School of Mines in the UK. His experience spans some 30 years in the mineral industry including extensive involvement in exploration and mine development projects in Africa, Australia, Papua New Guinea and more recently Latin America. His career has included senior roles in the Rio Tinto group, Placer Dome and Resolute Mining as well as involvement with several junior exploration companies in Africa.
Mike joined First Quantum Minerals in 2008 as Exploration Director and has been closely involved in an exciting period of growth, assisting the company to take advantage of a raft of exploration and acquisition opportunities.
General Manager, Northern Operations (Mining, Exploration & NPI)
Chris Stone is the General Manager for BHP Nickel West’s Northern Operations and has thirty years of experience in a range of operations across gold, nickel and coal commodities.
He is responsible for Nickel West’s open-cut and underground mining operations in the norther Goldfields, as well as its exploration portfolio and non-process infrastructure including power, water, and aviation.
Highlights of Chris’ career include a significant improvement in safety and workforce culture, a landmark agreement with the Tjiwarl Native Title Holders, the development of five new significant nickel mines, and playing a part in the Nickel West strategy as a future facing commodity in the BHP portfolio.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) from the University of New South Wales, a Masters of Business Administration from Deakin University, and a Masters in Project Management from the University of Southern Queensland.
Exploration Manager
An accomplished geologist with over 20 years’ experience in minerals exploration and business development. Matt has been involved in significant greenfields and brownfields discoveries and provided leadership and management of successful exploration teams and large resource definition programmes. He was previously the Principal Geologist at BHP – Nickel West and Exploration Manager at St George Mining Ltd.
Chief Executive Officer
Mr Lynn is a geologist with over 25 years’ experience in exploration and development of a range of commodities including nickel, gold, and base metals. He has worked extensively within Australia, South America and Russia, including 15 years in Western Australia previously for Great Central Mines, Gold Fields and IGO Limited. He has played a key role in the discovery of both nickel and VMS style base metal deposits within Western Australia. Mr Lynn is a member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists and holds Bachelor of Geology (App) and Master of Economic Geology degrees.
Managing Director
Mr Moulton is a Geologist / mineral economist with over 25 years of global experience in the mining industry, including Rio Tinto, Cliffs & Wood Mackenzie. He has broad commodity experience, with diverse project experience including Australia, Mongolia, USA, Indonesia and Australia and holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Geology from the University of Western Australia and a Masters in Mineral and Energy Economics (Distinction) from Curtin University. His strong commercial and technical background is drawn from a career in exploration, production, and resource development, including strategic mine option analysis, scenario planning, and structured due diligence of greenfield and brownfield projects. Mr. Moulton’s country of residence is Australia.
Managing Director & CEO
Steve is an experienced resources industry executive, company director and mining engineer with over 25 years’ experience in executive and operational roles.
He has worked in mine contracting as well as for mine owners, in both open cut and underground operations, exploiting commodities including nickel, gold, base metals and coal.
Having held senior management positions for both ASX and TSX listed companies he has worked within Australia, Cnada and South-East Asia.
Most recentlu, Steve was Director of Operations for Westgold Resources Ltd (ASX:WGX). He has previously held the position of Managing Directo at ASX listed companies: Red 5 Limited and Tectonic Resources Limited.
Managing Director
Edmund J. Ainscough is a Managing Director & Director at Lunnon Metals Ltd. and a Member at Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy. He is on the Board of Directors at Lunnon Metals Ltd. and Medallion Metals Ltd. Mr. Ainscough was previously employed as a Chief Geologist Officer by WMC Resources Ltd.
Principal Analyst Nickel
Angela joined Wood Mackenzie in 2012 and is based in Sydney.
In her time at Wood Mackenzie Angela has worked on nickel, zinc and lead costs and nickel markets. She is responsible for the Nickel Industry Cost Service which covers 96% of the world’s nickel production and includes 168 nickel operations and projects.
Prior to joining Wood Mackenzie Angela worked at CRU as a Senior Consultant in the Special Steels and Alloys Team. Angela also worked at Pasminco Ltd as a Project Metallurgist at the company’s Century Zinc mine, as well as its Broken Hill, Cobar and Rosebery base metal mines, and its Newcastle Lead Smelter.
Angela graduated from Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia, with a degree in Science (Extractive Metallurgy). She also holds a degree in Economics from Flinders University, Adelaide, South Australia.
Executive Director
Oliver Kiddie is the Executive Director of Legend Mining Limited. He is a Geologist with over 18 years’ experience in exploration, development, and production across Australia and internationally.
He has extensive experience in base metal and gold exploration through Senior Management and Executive positions, most recently as GM Exploration for the Creasy Group. Mr Kiddie is a member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Managing Director
Peter is a process engineer with over 30 years corporate experience in the minerals industry, specialising in financing, marketing, business development and general corporate activities. Peter has a long history of working on nickel sulphide projects including Mt Keith, Silver Swan/Black Swan, Savannah, Lanfranchi and now the three Poseidon assets – Black Swan, Mt Windarra and Lake Johnston.
Peter joined Poseidon in March 2020. Prior to joining Poseidon Peter was Managing Director of Panoramic Resources for 18 years, a company he co-founded as a $3 million IPO in 2001. Peter steered Panoramic through the financing and development of the Savannah Nickel Project in the East Kimberley and the acquisition and re-start of the Lanfranchi Nickel Project near Kambalda with the company reaching a market capitalisation of $1.2 billion in 2007 and producing a combined 20,000tpa nickel equivalent for the next 10 years. Panoramic made five project acquisitions and one on market takeover during that time and diversified into gold and PGEs.
Peter is also Chairman of ASX listed Ocean Grown Abalone and has been on a number of other ASX listed resource company boards over the past 15 years.
Minister for Mines and Petroleum; Energy; Industrial Relations and Member for Cannington
Bill Johnston is Western Australia’s Minister for Mines and Petroleum, Energy and Industrial Relations.
He has been a Minister for the McGowan Labor Government since March 2017, after a landslide victory against the Liberal Government.
In Opposition he served as Shadow Minister for State Development and Energy from 2012, and Shadow Minister for Mines and Petroleum from 2013.
He was a Member of the Economics and Industry Standing Committee and Deputy Chair of the Inquiry into Domestic Gas Prices from 2010 to 2011.
Prior to entering Parliament, he was the State Secretary of WA Labor from 2001 until 2008, with responsibility for all State and Federal election campaigns.

Scott Williamson is a Mining Engineer with a Commerce degree from the West Australian School of Mines and Curtin University. Mr Williamson started his career as an underground mining engineer in the goldfields of Western Australia. Mr Williamson has recent experience in equity capital markets with previous roles as a Resources Analyst at Hartleys and Investor Relations Manager at Resolute Mining. Mr Williamson has a unique blend of experience in mining and finance with both corporate and technical capabilities.
Executive Chairman
John is a founding shareholder of St George with over 30 years experience in the resources, banking and legal sectors. Prior to establishing St George in 2010, John was Country Head for Commerzbank in Sydney overseeing numerous loans to resources companies.
At St George, he has positioned the company for significant growth in the era of the electric battery revolution with Australia’s latest nickel-copper sulphide discovery at Mt Alexander.

• Jim has 40 years of experience in researching the international metals and mining industries
• Jim Lennon worked at Macquarie from 1994 to 2013. He left Macquarie in June 2013 and set up his own consulting company, Red Door Research Ltd. The consulting company specialises in the economic analysis of hard commodity markets. Jim remains a part-time consultant to Macquarie.
• Until June 2013, he was Chairman of Commodities at Macquarie, having worked for Macquarie for 19 years. He founded and headed up a 10 person research team in London, Singapore and Shanghai which serviced the equity, LME trading and corporate advisory divisions of the bank with steel, coal, metals and minerals research and market intelligence.
• Jim and his team at Macquarie were regularly ranked number one in various surveys of commodities research among equity investors for over a decade.
• Prior to Macquarie, Jim worked for 10 years at CRU International, where he headed up a team specialising in Special steels (including stainless steel) and steelmaking alloys (mainly manganese, silicon, chrome, nickel and molybdenum). While at CRU, Jim also undertook major studies on metallurgical coal and iron ore.
• Jim’s current major specialisations are the main base metals and steel industries and their raw materials including nickel, chrome, molybdenum, iron ore and coking coal.
• Before joining CRU, Jim worked as a marketing analyst at New Zealand Steel. He has also worked as an Associate Director of Metals and Mining Research at Shearson Lehman Hutton Securities.
• Jim has a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. He has a strong interest in development economics.
Managing Director
Dr Michael Jones is the Managing Director of Impact Minerals Limited which he helped found in 2006. Mike leads his exploration team who are currently focussed on the Broken Hill project where the company has discovered some of the highest grades of PGMS in Australia at a time of record palladium prices, its Commonwealth Project in the Lachlan Fold Belt where follow up exploration is in progress for large porphyry copper-gold deposits along trend from Alkane’s Boda-Kaiser discovery and its new Arkun nickel-copper-PGE-Gold Project in Western Australia.
Chief Executive Officer
Andrew Penkethman is a resources sector executive and geologist with 25 years’ experience in the resources industry. His technical skills include project evaluation, early stage and near mine exploration, resource development, feasibility study management, permitting, stake holder engagement and mine development across open pit and underground operations within Australia and overseas. Commodities experience includes gold, base metals, battery minerals and energy commodities over a range of geological settings. Mr Penkethman’s technical expertise is complimented by over 13 years in executive roles with a strong corporate focus including strategic partner processes, joint venture management, financial modelling, and project acquisition and divestment. Mr Penkethman has ASX, AIM and TSX equity markets experience.
Mr Penkethman holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wollongong, is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and a Member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
Dan Lougher is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Western Areas, a nickel mining and exploration company which listed on the Australia Stock Exchange in July 2000.
Dan is a qualified Mining Engineer with over 38 years’ experience in all aspects of resource and mining project exploration, feasibility, development and operations.
Mr Lougher is a Fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy.
Managing Director
David Southam is the Managing Director of Mincor having commenced in February 2019. David brings extensive industry experience including significant capital markets expertise, a successful M&A track record, familiarity with the set-up and operation of joint ventures, negotiation of substantial international commodity offtake agreements and has a background covering base and precious metals, bulk materials, contracting and industrial logistics. David is a Certified Practicing Accountant and has more than 25 years’ experience in accounting, banking and finance across the resources and industrial sectors. David was an Executive Director at Western Areas from 2010 to 2018 and was a Non-Executive Director of Kidman Resources up to the Wesfarmers takeover announcement. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of Ramelius Resources, Council Member and Chairman of the Audit and Compliance Committee of Curtin University.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer
Peter Bradford joined IGO Limited as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer in March 2014. He is a qualified metallurgist with over 35 years of experience in gold and base metals mining operations, exploration and development, and has held senior positions internationally and within Australia. Peter is a graduate of the Western Australian School of Mines, a fellow of Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, President of the Association of Exploration & Mining Companies and a WA Mining Club committee member.
Interim Chief Executive Officer
David is the Interim CEO Poseidon Nickel Limited and he was appointed to this role on 1 September 2019 after a period of 6 months as the Company’s Interim CFO.
David is an experienced ASX director who has operated at both the Executive and Non-executive level with listed entities with assets or operations throughout Australia, Asia, Africa, Canada and Eastern Europe. He has been involved with a broad range of precious, base and energy minerals as well as oil and gas.
He has over his career provided corporate, strategic and compliance services to a variety of organisations operating in the Resource and Industrial sector, usually enterprises seeking expansion capital, refocus or revitalisation.
He has overseen, exploration and resource development, scoping and feasibility studies, production, optimisation and rehabilitation initiatives.
David has a special interest in the energy and energy storage sector, primarily through energy storage minerals and commodities with specific knowledge of nickel, uranium oil and gas, graphite, lithium, copper and cobalt .
David is a Non-Executive Director of remote power generation and energy solutions specialist, ASX listed Zenith Energy Limited and independent uranium company Paladin Energy Limited.
Non-Executive Director
Martin is a geologist with over 49 years’ exploration and mining experience acquired through fieldwork, research and management of Australia-wide and offshore programmes in Indonesia, North America, the Southwest Pacific region and Southern Africa.
Corporate sector experience stems from 24 years as a director of ASX listed companies.
Given this is a nickel conference, his relevant experience commenced in 1970 when he joined International Nickel Australia Ltd initially at their Widgiemooltha operations which included the Mt Edwards mine until he was the last man standing at INCO and made responsible for the sale of INCO’s assets to WMC in 1977.
That year he joined Anaconda Australia as their nickel geologist and was back at Widgiemootha responsible for the Redross Mine area exploration.
During this time, he also worked on the Yakabindie/Six Mile nickel deposit and in 1983 he ended up being tasked with the disposal of Anaconda’s Widgiemooltha nickel assets again to WMC. In 1985, Martin together with the four remaining Anaconda geologists bought the Australian and Indonesian assets of Anaconda and merged them with Dominion Oil and Gas to form Dominion Mining Ltd a very successful open pit gold miner.
There followed many years of gold, base metals and uranium exploration leading eventually to rebirth as a nickel geologist for Chase Mining in their Canadian aspirations.
